October is National Dyslexia Awareness month. In our house, this is cause for some serious celebration! You see, sometimes I feel it’s important to take a break from focusing on all the things that need to be ‘fixed’ and the to-do list that comes from that. Mamas of Dyslexic Kids (MODKs), you’re familiar with the list I’m talking about here: the remediation, the tutoring, the speech therapy, the IEP/504 planning and execution, the podcasts, the books and research articles and the millions of other ways we support and advocate for our children. Every. Single. Day.
This is a month we are blatantly reminded to simply CELEBRATE these remarkable humans and all their special gifts and talents. It’s also a time to remember that we are still raising children who will ultimately go out and make their mark on the world. They are greater than their Dyslexia. Let’s enjoy them as children and remember to keep the big picture in mind.
They are amazing.
They are unique.
They are creative.
They are kind.
They are brilliant.
They are brave.
They are enough.
They will make a difference.
Now, who’s ready to bust out the celebratory cake with a side of bubbly?
