Dyslexia Awareness Month
Why I Started this Blog
About Tia Smith
Tia Smith, AKA ‘The Dyslexia Doula’, is the mother of three bright and creative children, two of which have been identified with Dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.
When her oldest daughter was diagnosed, Tia traded in her MBA and career in Global Advertising for a more glamorous life shuttling kids all over town, spending weekends at swim meets or baseball games, and supervising neighborhood Nerf gun battles. In her spare time, she focused on learning and understanding as much as humanly possible about Dyslexia and other learning differences. She often found herself talking with and coaching other families who were in the midst of their own discovery process. Just like a birth doula is there to support and advocate for mothers (and fathers), Tia soon realized that parents of these exceptional children could use a little bit of the same support. Her friends nicknamed her ‘The Dyslexia Doula’ and it stuck.

So Glad You’re Here…
I am on a personal mission to shift misperceptions around Dyslexia and eliminate the stigma that children and their families often experience. And I want to support, nurture and empower YOU in the process!
We have a significant opportunity to change the way the world views and talks about Dyslexia…and it is a story of optimism and hope. I believe there is power in connecting through our shared experiences, raising awareness and celebrating the unique gifts that Dyslexia also brings. Together, we can drive productive change in education and associated policies that will benefit all types of learners.
So, come on in, get comfy and grab a cup of tea. Ok, let’s be real. If we’re going to be friends and do this together, we may as well acknowledge that some of you people already need a glass of wine for this! Let’s start chatting and have some fun along the way.
Together…let’s BE the change.
